Illustrated with black & white wood engravings by the author. 245 pages Patrick and Penelope set sail with their artist uncle in a cargo vessel bound for Jamaica and Panama, on their way to Tahiti. Their uncle is on the look-out for a scientist friend of his, who is studying fish somewhere in those parts. On arrival in Tahiti he finds his friend is on a small island some three days' sail from there, so they all embark again, this time in a schooner, in hopes of reaching him. But a storm blows up. The Skipped decides to put his unusual passengers ashore on the south end of the island before the gale increases, and Uncle John starts to row through the gap in the reef in one of the ship's boats.
