Contains the accounts of four journeys undertaken into the Australian outback by explorer, geologist and anthropologist, Charles Chewings [1859-1937] between 1881 and 1909. The in 1881-2, Chewings Travelled from Beltana, SA to Hermannsburg and Henbury , NT; In 1883 he sailed to Port Lincoln, then from there to Streaky Bay, Denial Bay, Lake Everard, north of Tarcoola, Mt Finke and east to Coondambo. His most important expedition in 1885 was an expedition, with camels, to the Centre, where he explored the sources of the Finke River. In 1909 he travelled from Barrow Creek to Victoria River NT searching for water for possible stock routes.
