Inscribed by the author on half-title page. 111 pages Raising Coromandel probes the history of the 662 ton three-masted barque that in 1837 spawned folklore of absconding sailors who fled to the Coromandel Valley. It was the first migrant ship to arrive in South Australia after proclamation of the province. Carrying around 150 or so passengers from England, the boat first docked on Kangaroo Island before eventually arriving at Port Adelaide. The ship then lent its name to the suburbs of Coromandel Valley and Coromandel East. The book also contains an historical nonfiction work on the ship, biographical data on Captain William Chesser, 'factional' account of shipboard life 1836-1837, and history of Coromandel Valley
