Illustrated with Black and White Photographs. 200 pages In 1942 sixteen Australian-born men were secretly interned in Sydney. They were members of the Australia First movement, a tiny fringe group whose philosophy comprised chauvinistic Australianism, spiced with anti-British, quasi-Fascist and anit-Semitic overtones. Their internment was subsequently the subject of a report by Justice Clyne. Muirden paints a disquieting picture of what can happen to civil liberties when ordinary legal proceses are suspended on the grounds of 'security'.
